About Cothamside
Cothamside's handmade furniture tradition was started by Ted Stocks in 1976, making high quality furniture from reclaimed pine beams from Yorkshire wool and cotton mills. The business quickly gained a reputation for quality workmanship and close attention to customer needs and expectations.
In 1982 Ted's son Stephen joined the business and Cothamside was born with a new workshop in Clifton. Steve introduced a new precision from his engineering background and the emphasis changed to working with new materials including high quality timber from sustainable sources from around the world.
The business was awarded Guild of Master Craftsmen status in 1998 and Steve continues the tradition of high quality cabinet making – serving with care, a loyal and expanding clientele. You are welcome to come and visit our workshops at any time.
All timber used in the workshop is supplied by companies using FSC managed forests. During 2010 we aim to cut our carbon footprint, with a view to becoming carbon neutral. We are planning to install a wood burner, not only will this provide heat for a more comfortable working atmosphere but also combats the problem of waste wood. The burner is environmentally friendly and produces almost no flue gases.
All our cardboard packaging is recycled, we are committed to putting as little waste as possible into landfill.
